PHOTOS: 101st running of Bay to Breakers brings out zany costumes, crazy floats

It’s an only-in-San Francisco tradition.

Sunday’s 101st running of the Bay to Breakers was won by Sammy Kitwara and Mamitu Daska — but for much of the rest of the field, winning was irrelevant.

The traditional array of costumed runners — in it for the fun — made up the bulk of the entries in the 12k race.

Kitwara finished the course in 34 minutes 40 seconds, the fastest overall time, while Daska — who, as one of the elite female runners received a 4 1/2 minute head start — was first to cross the line with a time of 39:02.

But many of the less competitively minded entries would trickle across the finish over the next few hours.

Have a peek at some of the images from this year’s edition of the combination race and costume party.
