San Francisco Fire Department arson investigators responded to a suspicious fire — the fourth in 24 hours — that was lit outside a house at 18th & Collingwood Streets in the Castro District early Friday morning.

Neighbors reported that the screen door of a Victorian house at 4222 18th Street was engulfed in flames when they were awaken by noise at 4:15 a.m. The fire also destroyed a piece of plastic that was discovered on the porch area.

Residents and neighbors of a 16th Street apartment building gutted by flames meet in front of the building.

Three suspicious early morning fires in the Castro District have put residents on alert after fire investigators revealed that they suspected an arsonist set all three blazes, one of which consumed an occupied apartment building and left shaken residents running for their lives.

The fires were set within an hour of each other between 4:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. and within a two block radius.

(6/27) — 19:34 PDT — SAN FRANCISCO — A late night shooting in San Francisco’s Castro District during the city’s “Pink Saturday” celebration claimed the life of a 19-year-old man and left two others with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
