OAKLAND — An armed man being chased by police led officers into a BART subway tunnel Wednesday afternoon causing the transit agency to shut off power to trains at the Lake Merritt station.
The foot chase by BART and Oakland Police led to delays of up to 30 minutes for riders traveling in the East Bay because of the power shutdown at approximately 12:15 p.m., the agency reported.

OAKLAND — A car being chased by Oakland Police officers Wednesday evening near 18th and West Streets broadsided another vehicle — killing the female driver and sending her 19-month old infant to Children’s Hospital with critical injuries.
The crash happened at around 6:30 p.m. at the West Oakland intersection when a black Acura Integra failed to stop for police officers who activated their emergency lights and siren in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The car sped off and T-boned a Hyundai Accent further down the street. The Accent had the right away.
