After a brief respite from an onslaught of stormy weather Saturday morning, another powerful storm to moved into the Bay Area at night bringing with it more rain, wind and the prospect of flooding along two swollen rivers.
Heavy rain began falling during the evening hours Saturday. The brunt of the storm, the third in the past four days, will strike Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Four killings and at least seven non-fatal shootings were reported throughout Oakland over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, police said Sunday.
The latest killings occurred at 6 a.m. Sunday on the 3900 block of Brookdale Avenue near Minna Street in East Oakland where two women were found with gunshot wounds. Both were taken to Highland Hospital where they were pronounced dead.

(11/21) — 0745 PST UPDATE — OAKLAND, CALIF. – Oakland firefighters and divers from the Alameda County Search and Rescue team recovered the body of a man who fell at least 100 feet into a water-filled rock quarry while looking for his pet cat early Wednesday morning.
The quarry is located adjacent to the Rockridge Shopping Center off of Pleasant Valley Dr. near Montgomery St. at the Oakland-Piedmont city line, authorities said.

News of the demise of Hostess Brands, maker of Twinkies and other popular snack cakes for the past 82 years, has left nostalgic fans scrambling to stock up on boxes anywhere they can find them.
But Bay Area Twinkie-lovers were hard-pressed to find the endangered treats at supermarkets, drug stores and bakery outlet stores over the weekend. Loaves of Wonder Bread, also baked by the Hostess company were in high demand too.

Neighbors of a Safeway store in Oakland’s Rockridge District have struck a deal with the company over a contentious proposal to tear down the existing location and build a much larger modern grocery store on the property.
Residents from the Oakland neighborhood, Berkeley, Safeway representatives and city councilwoman Jane Brunner held a 12-hour mediation session Nov. 8 to address long-held concerns about the project’s size and impact on neighborhood traffic.

A movie about the shooting of Oscar Grant, the 22 year-old unarmed Hayward man killed by BART Police in 2009, could begin filming in Northern California this summer, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The entertainment publication said Oscar winner Octavia Spencer and ”Chronicle” actor Michael B. Jordan are in negotiations to play the roles of Wanda Johnson, Grant’s mother, and the shooting victim in the production.

Police said they believe a man detained at South Shore Shopping Center in Alameda was the gunman who went on a shooting rampage on the campus of a private college in East Oakland around 10:40 a.m. this morning.
Officers from Alameda and Oakland Police took the man, identified as Wan Goh, 43, into custody at 12:30 p.m. near the center’s Safeway supermarket. Investigators also impounded a newer model dark blue Honda Accord believed to be connected to the shooting, and conducted a search of the parking lot for potential evidence left behind by the suspect.
