California State Prison Sacramento was built in 1986 as a companion facility adjacent to Folsom State Prison. Originally called “New Folsom,” CSP Sacramento houses 3,000 inmates serving long-terms for varying offenses.
The facility is considered a maximum security housing complex with several cell blocks covering 1,200 acres near California’s Folsom Lake.
FOLSOM — Two inmates at California State Prison Sacramento were being treated for multiple stab wounds at local hospitals after a “large-scale riot” that involved weapons broke out on prison grounds Friday morning, prison officials said.
Prison officials estimate that at least 150 inmates participated in the violence with several of them injured in the melee after knives and other weapons were used during the fighting. Prison officials said they recovered a half dozen homemade knives that were used in the fight.
A 32 year-old San Francisco man remains jailed in connection with the stabbing of a San Francisco MUNI Cable Car conductor Sunday afternoon.
George Luong was arrested after he allegedly stabbed the conductor, a 12 year veteran of the transit agency, multiple times in the torso on the 1300 block of Mason St. in Chinatown at 4:18 p.m., police said.
