American Airlines jet held at SFO after security threat

By California Beat August 19, 2010 No Comments Print Share

An American Airlines flight was held on the ground Thursday morning at SFO following a security threat being called in to police.

American flight 24, a Boeing 767 bound for New York’s JFK airport and originally scheduled to depart at 7:30 a.m., was isolated on a remote corner of the airfield after someone called in a threat to hijack the plane. Passengers were bused back to the terminal to be interviewed and rescreened by TSA.

Two people on board the flight were detained for questioning for reasons unrelated to the threat. KNTV television posted a photo of what appears to be a man being led off the plane in handcuffs.

A passenger on board the flight said that passengers were calm and that there was no situation on board.

The FBI said later that the hijacking threat was not credible.
