An evening vigil and safety discussion has been organized for Wednesday to remember a pedestrian who was killed by a hit-and-run driver near San Francisco’s Panhandle area early Friday morning.
James Hudson, 61, of San Francisco was killed on impact when a 2009 white Hyundai sedan struck the pedestrian as he crossed Masonic Avenue near Turk Street, San Francisco Police reported.

In the wake of a tragedy that opened the curtains on the deep divisions plaguing a city in mourning, religious leaders from around the East Bay brought together several hundred community members Tuesday evening in a call for peace and unity.
The vigil, held a block from where four Oakland police officers and a suspect were killed during an afternoon shooting spree in East Oakland March 21, was marked by singing, dancing and praying in an effort to uplift spirits and move forward during a time of continued violence on the neighborhood’s streets.

Over 20,000 people packed the Oracle Arena Friday to pay their respects to four Oakland Police Department officers slain by a wanted parolee in a chaotic sequence of events last Saturday.
Police officers and private citizens came from all over the United States and Canada to attend the mass funeral for Oakland Police Sgt. Mark Dunakin, Officer John Hege, Sgt. Ervin Romans and Sgt. Daniel Sakai.

For a moment, it seemed the entire world stopped and tipped their hat to the four fallen Oakland Police officers who were gunned down Saturday afternoon by a wanted parolee. A massive funeral service for the officers was held this Friday at Oakland’s Oracle Arena where upwards of 19,000 crowded the complex, and the overflow seating inside the Oakland Coliseum next door to say thank you and goodbye. A massive police funeral – set for 11 a.m. at the Oracle Arena Friday morning – for four slain Oakland officers is expected to draw at least 19,000 people including thousands of police officers across North America: from New York City to Canada.
The four officers, Sgts. Mark Dunakin, Dan Sakai, Erv Romans and Officer John Hege were killed by a lone gunman, Lovell Mixon, Saturday afternoon after a deadly traffic stop and subsequent raid on an apartment that left all the veteran policemen dead.
