Services planned for man murdered during San Jose robbery rampage
Memorial services have been scheduled for Saturday for Rory Park-Pettiford, the man killed by two armed robbers during a carjacking attempt outside a San Jose 7-11 convenience store Friday night.
Police said Park-Pettiford, 22, of San Jose became the innocent victim of a robbery rampage targeting four businesses committed by Jonathan Wilbanks and a 15 year-old boy who was arrested in Concord Friday.
The pair also opened fire on a San Jose Police officer who narrowly escaped injury when Wilbanks, 26, of San Jose and the other suspect ran sprayed the patrol car with gunfire.
Park-Pettiford, who grew up in Campbell, was with a friend at the South Kiely Avenue 7-11 store when the two men came up to him and tried to steal his car, police said. Park-Pettiford was fatally wounded in the encounter.
Wilbanks was arrested after a brief car chase, murder of Park-Pettiford and the attempted murder of the officer.
Police arrested a 15 year-old boy Friday on the 5200 block of Clayton Rd. in Concord as the second suspect involved in the crime.
Park-Pettiford’s services will begin at 11 a.m. at the Darling Fischer Memorial Chapel in Campbell located at 231 East Campbell Avenue. They are open to the public.
