The stars of the victorious fight for Gay Rights took center-stage during an especially significant San Francisco Pride Parade Sunday.

Like in years past, marriage remained a prevailing theme. This year, there was added reason to celebrate: more than 500 same-sex marriage certificates were issued during Pride Weekend at San Francisco City Hall following the defeat of Proposition 8, California’s ban on same-sex marriage, at the U.S. Supreme Court last week.

(5/9) — 1255 PDT — WASHINGTON — In a television interview with ABC News, President Obama said he believes same-sex couples should be able to get married, becoming the first sitting American President to support gay marriage.

The historic announcement reversed Obama’s long-standing support of civil unions — but not marriage — for same-sex couples.

A three-judge panel of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals heard oral arguments in San Francisco today on the question of whether a lower court ruling that California’s voter-approved ban on gay marriage is unconstitutional should be allowed to stand.

The two-and-a-half hour hearing was televised live nationwide on C-SPAN, affording viewers a rare chance to watch the judges pressing both sides on questions such as whether Proposition 8 has any rational basis.
