California is surely one of the most interesting states in the USA since it is the state with the highest living standard and the nicest climates. So, the largest city by population in California is Los Angeles, as we have seen. The second place is reserved for San Diego which has 1,394,928 residents according to the last census. The third place is reserved for San Jose which has 1,026,908 residents. Then comes San Francisco with 884,521 residents, Fresno with 527,439 and Sacramento with 501,712 residents, etc. However, it should be noted that these cities have higher populations if we add the urban conglomeration onto these numbers.
The capital city of California
The capital city of California in Sacramento and it is located in Sacramento County. It was incorporated into the USA on the 27th of February in 1850. The city’s urban population has been estimated at 508,529 residents. However, this city takes a larger urban and metro area. This is the reason why its urban area is much greater and it has 1,723,634 resident while the metro area of the city if even greater and it has 2,149,127 resident, and those are without illegal immigrants, the number of whom is counted in thousands. It should be mentioned that Sacramento was founded by Spanish colonizers in 1808.
Los Angeles
This is the largest city in California and one of the most famous cities in the world. It should be mentioned that Los Angeles got the city status on the 23rd of May in 1835. However, it should be also mentioned that the first settlement here, Pueblo, was created on the 4th of September in 1781. The incorporation into the USA took place on the 4th April in 1850. As far as population is concerned, the city itself has 3,990,456 according to 2018 estimates. However, the urban area is much more populated and it has 12,150,996 residents. When we are talking about the metro area, we should emphasize that it is the second largest in the USA with 13,131,431 resident, excluding the illegal immigrants, and there are hundreds of thousands of them.
San Diego
San Diego was established on the 16th July in 1796 and it was incorporated into the USA on the 27th March in 1850. It is one of the largest cities in California with 1,419,516 residents, which is a 2017 estimate. However, the urban area officially has 2,956,746 resident while the metro area has 3,317,749 resident.
San Jose
The first mention if this community was on the 29th of November in 1777 when it was founded as a Pueblo. It should be mentioned that it was incorporated into the USA in the same year as the vast majority of the cities in California, i.e. in 1850, and on the 27th March. It should be noted that the 2017 population estimate is at 1,035,317 while the urban area is estimated at 1,894,389.
San Francisco
This is one of the most known cities in California and the USA. It was founded in 1776 and incorporated in 1850. The population is 883,305 while the metro area has 4,729,484 residents.
