The California Beat and The Campanil are partnering to provide daily court reporting from the Johannes Mehserle BART shooting murder trial in Los Angeles. Mehserle is the former BART Police Officer who was caught on video shooting and killing 22 year-old Oscar Grant at the Fruitvale BART station on January 1, 2009.
His killing sparked a fiery outcry in the Bay Area about the justifiability of the killing. It touched off violence in Oakland and sparked fervent protests for charges to be brought against Mehserle.
As part of our commitment to following the developments, we’ve compiled a directory to help you understand the context surrounding what happened and how it affects the Bay Area.
